Hey guys, I wanted to answer one of our most commonly asked questions, which is “When should I buy my wedding dress?”.

So we recommend buying your wedding dress twelve to eighteen months in advance of your wedding, and I’m gunna tell you why, because I know that seems like a really long time!

On average it takes sixteen to twenty-six weeks for a wedding dress to come in, so that’s four to six months, so take that out of the way, there’s six months gone. On top of that we add about four weeks for shipping and customs, at the minute shipping and customs are much slower than it was pre-COVID and pre-Brexit, so that does slow things down a little bit, so we like to give a full four weeks just in case. So there we are at seven months.

On top of that we like to allow three months for your alterations so that means your dress arrives three months before your wedding date to allow your seamstress plenty of time to do any alterations or changes to your dress that you need.

So there we are, we’re at ten months.

Now, heaven forbid, it is something that happens few and far between but let’s say our dress arrives and it has a mark on it or there’s something slightly wrong and we need to get a replacement dress or liaise with the designer to correct whatever mistake has been made, that gives us an additional two months there to do that, just in case. Again, it rarely happens but we like to plan ahead so that there’s no stress involved and no mad panic about it being so super close to your wedding date.

Now, all designers do offer a rush option, so generally that means you can get a dress as quickly as twelve weeks, some will do even shorter than that, some will do ten weeks, but you are going to be paying an additional fee for that and some of those fees can be quite high. And again you still have to take into consideration the time for shipping, the time for your alterations and any like extra padding time.

So, that is why we recommend twelve to eighteen months in advance of your wedding is the perfect time to start shopping and buying your dress. You can then just be totally chill knowing your dress is taken care of, you have plenty of time, no stress, no worries.
